I am so proud to have had Orland marry us, and Naomi give us the Living Last Supper Drama, our lives have been changed by your gentle loving hands! I wrote this book for anyone making anything. And vague as I admit that to be, I believe it to be most useful framed that way.�

Because in my opinion, the same advice could be given to someone organizing a bake sale as someone organizing a global cross-channel campaign. I also think the same high-level process and consideration set could apply to a student making their first website as a major corporation redesigning their digital ecosystem.

We have spent the last thousand years inventing ever-stronger ways to transport messages from one point to another. But along the way, we haven't spent as much time considering how our messages will be interpreted and how that might impact the way people understand and use the information that our messages contain.�

We spend most of the time talking about the practical and predictable parts of our world. The steps we will take, the deliverables we will produce, the thing we are making, even the value we will be creating by doing so, the organization of teams and projects to get us there -- but we spend much less time (if any at all) talking about the perceived meaning of choices we make, the impact language has on our communication's effectiveness, or playing with structures that would best serve our intent before we start to layer on the details of design and execution. I wanted to write a book that taught those lessons.

About the Author
Abby Covert specializes in delivering a highly collaborative information architecture process and teaching those that she works with along the way. Abby speaks and writes under the pseudonym Abby the IA, focusing on sharing information architecture content with those working within the design and technology communities. She teaches information architecture at The School of Visual Arts, Parsons: the New School and General Assembly NYC. Abby prides herself on being an active organizer and mentor within the IA community. She currently serves as the president of the Information Architecture Institute and as an advisor for the Information Architecture Summit. She holds credit for inventing World Information Architecture Day, a free annual conference held simultaneously in dozens of locations across the globe. Now in its fourth year, World IA Day has been held in 50+ cites. Thirty eight more locations have been added for 2015. After ten years of practicing information architecture for clients and writing about it on the web, Abby saw that too few people knew how to practice it for themselves. She decided that the best way to help would be to teach this important practice. And, after two years of teaching without a textbook, Abby told her students that she intended to write the book that was missing: a book about information architecture for everybody. This is that book. In developing this book, Abby wrote more than 75,000 words, clarified the contextual meaning of more than 100 terms, and tested three distinctively different prototypes with readers.

Information Architecture Literacy

If I had to sum it up in one sentence, I'd say this book teaches "information architecture literacy". I'm not even sure the idea of such a thing existed before, but you only have to read this book to realize how it's critically needed... by everyone.

The ALA defines information literacy as the ability to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information". Obviously, these skills are still needed today, and not just by librarians and information professionals. But "use" in the old context seemed simpler: finding and applying the information directly. Now we're inhabiting places made of information, struggling with and trying to understand, create, and share complex messes of information. None of this is easy, it's disorienting and confusing, and many of us lack a good approach to figure this stuff out. That's where information architecture comes in. And Abby's book does an excellent job of explaining the core concepts in a way that is accessible and useful for anyone.

This isn't a textbook, or some "thought leader's" magical process. You won't learn how to build a website or an app. It's a frank and interesting look at how to begin to figure stuff out. (Where "stuff" is the complex interaction of people, information, and technology.)

Finally, a true IA primer

There is nothing wrong with Lou Rosenfeld's or Christina Wodtke's pre-eminent books on information architecture. But they are thick, dense reads you just can't hand to someone asking you, "So what IS information architecture anyway?" But now comes Abby Covert's short book that explains, plainly, why IA is important in unadorned text. I think we may look on this book in coming years the way we look on Don't Make Me Think: A book that can explain to the layperson why we in the UX/IA world do what we do. It's short, plain, clear, and smart.

About the Author
For over thirty years, Lawrence Harbison was charge of new play acquisition for Samuel French, Inc., during which time his work on behalf of playwrights resulted in the first publication of such subsequent luminaries as Jane Martin, Don Nigro, Tina Howe, Theresa Rebeck, Jose Rivera, William Mastrosimone, Charles Fuller, and Ken Ludwig, among many others. He is now a freelance editor, primarily for Smith and Kraus, Inc. For many years, he wrote a weekly column on his adventures in the theater for two Manhattan Newspapers. His new column, On the Aisle with Larry, is a weekly feature on the Smith and Kraus website.

About the Author

John Harvey is a Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Iowa. He received his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Missouri–Columbia, USA. A Fellow of Division 8 of the American Psychological Association and recepient of the Distinguished Career Award and the New Contribution Award from the International Society for the Study of Personal Relationships in 2000, Dr. Harvey is the author or editor of over 30 books on close relationships

Mark Fine is a Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Missouri–Columbia, USA. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Ohio State University, USA. A licensed psychologist in both Missouri and Ohio, Dr. Fine is a Fellow of the National Council on Family Relations. How does it get any better than this..?

I have my own business and after reading this book and also listening to the audio book, my business i starting to do better. I understand my points of views better and see where I sometimes stagnate. Then I ask questions and suddenly there is a better flow in my business again.

Read this book if you are new to legal highs. It lists
many sources of legal highs and where to find them, and
how much to take. WARNING - If you are unfamiliar
with chemistry / extraction and synthesis; you should
not be creating legal drugs from pure form, your
stomach and intestines / brain may not like what you
fed it. Or even if you are unfamiliar with drugs in
general. Some people have adverse and very severe
reactions to legal highs. I would not try any of the
legal highs from here, I got extremely sick from
morning glory seeds, (they were from a wholesaler,
and did not contain pesticides). Be forewarned about
legal highs. Use this book for reference only.
Also, you must consider the source of the legal highs
because, 1)It depends where and how the herb/seeds
were grown, proper nutrients, light, etc... 2)How
fast harvest was, from life to package, some herbs
lose their potency within days. 3)How the extraction
was performed, etc... I advise researching legal
highs to the fullest extent using the Internet before
buying this book. Also, many companies already sell
legal drugs already prepared and tested. So, Do your
homework before ingesting any legal high...

A handy, helpful little reference tool, but hardly a comprehensive guide. It's also rather dated. Not a bad place to acquire general information, just understand that this is a tiny little book. Also important to note: most of this information, and last time I checked the actual text of this book itself, can be found on the internet without too much trouble. You may want to save your money and surf around a bit first.

This is a very concise though informative review of a LOT (believe me) of psychoactive plants and substances you can find in nature. It includes the effects, dosage, contraindications and even some suppliers (though those are not really helpful). This is the best information I could find on the subject.
