About the Author

Joanna F. DeFranco is assistant professor of software engineering and a member of the graduate faculty at The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining Penn State, she held faculty positions at Cabrini College and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She also held a number of positions in industry and government, including as an electronics engineer for the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, PA, and as a software engineer at Motorola in Horsham, Pennsylvania.

Dr. DeFranco received her BS in electrical engineering from Penn State, MS in computer engineering from Villanova University, and PhD in computer and information science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She is a member of ASEE and has had numerous publications in journals and conference proceedings. She is also on the curriculum advisory board for a local technical high school.

Phillip A. Laplante is professor of software engineering and affiliate professor of information science and technology at The Pennsylvania State University. Before joining Penn State, he was a professor and senior academic administrator at several other colleges and universities.Prior to his academic career, Dr. Laplante spent nearly eight years as a software engineer and project manager working on avionics (including the Space Shuttle), CAD (Computer Aided Design), and software test systems. He was also director of business development for a boutique software consulting firm. He has authored or edited 27 books and more than 200 papers, articles, and editorials.

Dr. Laplante received his BS, MEng, and PhD degrees in computer science, electrical engineering, and computer science, respectively, from Stevens Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Colorado. He is a fellow of the IEEE and a member of numerous professional societies, program committees, and boards. He is consultant to Fortune 500 companies, the U.S. Department of Defense, and NASA on technical and management issues. He also serves as a CIO/CEO coach.

Colin J. Neill is associate professor of software and systems engineering and associate division head of engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining Penn State, he worked as a research officer at the University of Wales Swansea, as a certified software process assessor and auditor, and as a software engineering consultant for a number of organizations in the United Kingdom and Europe. Notable experiences during this period included working on manufacturing strategies with Rover Cars and enterprise system selection, installation, and enhancement with British Aerospace.

Dr. Neill received his BEng in electrical and electronic engineering, MS in communication systems, and PhD in software and systems engineering from the University of Wales Swansea. He is a member of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and he is the author of more than 70 articles and book chapters. Additionally, he serves as a member of several journal editorial boards and academic conference committees. He conducts research for a number of companies and government agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). He is a rabid fan of Philadelphia professional sports teams.

Perfect for understanding your workplace

I thought I knew a lot about understanding people in my workplace based from previous project management courses. But this book adds yet another layer.

Antipatterns really help describe situations and possible remedies in order to solve them. Definitely a must to supplement a project management course, degree, or even to have around.

The Best Book I've ever seen (for the beginner)

First of all it took a long time before I could start with my review. Do you know why? I kept on searching for the sixth, seventh (and so on) star to give this book a rate which it deserve!!

I'm an intermediate user of Excel. That means I can solve my daily problems with formulas (not VBA). And sometimes I need some help from the internet. Then I discovered "MrExcel" and not much later "Excelisfun". It was and is amazing to follow them on youtube where they share all their knowledge for free. Bill and Mike THANKS.

If you don't follow them, you don't know what you're missing.

So when the E-book was ready to order I immediately did.

Let's talk about it

There are a lot of reasons to buy this book.

- It's easy written and every single step is explained in detail. Most of the times it is also visualised by figures.

- It is written by a man who's daily struggling with people like you and me and who's got the ability to explain it in such a way that everyone can understand.

- Everything is written in details. You don't only learn the trick but also will learn the details about it.

- It's not just an Excel book with some theoratical examples. Most examples and discussed problems are problems you'll see in the real world.

I can say a lot more but want to end with the advice that it is a must to buy this book.

Thanks to this book I understand a lot more of the formulas I already used. And now know a lot more of them.

There's one "disadvantage" for me personally. It's written in English and I'm a user of the Dutch version :)LOL So sometimes I loose some time with the translation of formulas and functions. But that's my problem :) and believe me, it's worth all the time!!

Nice summary with many examples

This book focuses on syntax, which the authors define as "that aspect of grammar which deals with the relationship and use of words and larger elements in a sentence". The companion volume by the same authors deals with morphology = word formation; that is ISBN 0819194913). (Each volume is independent and can be purchased and fully used alone; if someone wants the authors' views on both subjects, then they could purchase both books.)

This book does a good job of hitting the sweet spot between too wordy and too brief. In the first part of the book each usage of the substantive is given a succinct but complete & useful explanation, which is followed by several scriptural examples in both Greek and English.

For example, the "Adverbial Accusative of Measure" has a six sentence explanation followed by ten subcategories such as "The Substantive with the Preposition epi [Greek epi]" and a total of 25 examples from the New Testament.

Part II covers "The Verb" with the same type of information.

Part III of the book discussed "Aspects of Greek Sentences", including phrases and some diagramming.

The target audience is first or second year students of Greek and the purpose of the book is "to introduce the student to Greek syntax with maximum exposure to examples in the New Testament". In my opinion the authors have done a good job of achieving that goal.

This is not intended to be a student's one and only grammar. It is a great book to have on the shelf, a tool to easily understand the main grammatical categories. The old saying is true, that an example is worth a thousand words.

Helpful Work on Greek Syntax

The work Syntax of New Testament Greek which is authored by James A. Brooks and Carlton L. Winbery is superb help for persons studying intermediate Greek. This book is over 204-pages in length. It discusses syntax or the order of words in relation to substantives, verbs, and Greek sentences. The customary examples of cases in Greek or verb "tense" are given along with examples illustrating how NT writers employ indirect discourse with hOTI or hINA clauses. Syntax of New Testament Greek is easy to use, practical and contains adequate explanations of Greek syntactical phenomena.

For instance, Brooks and Winbery define terms such as "substantive," "number," "gender" (as it pertains to grammar) and "case" before they explain Greek cases such as nominative or the accusative case. The genitive case is classified into such categories as "Genitive of description" (that is, the genitive attributes a quality or relationship to the substantive), "Genitive of relationship" (this category is actually an extension of the genitive of possession), and "adverbial genitive."

Examples that illustrate these types of genitives (along with helpful translations) are given. E.G. the words LOGOIS THS XARITOS (Luke 4:22) illustrate the "genitive of description." The authors render these words thus: "words of grace." And there are five other scriptural examples provided for the genitive of description.

The foregoing is only part of the helpful material contained in this work. I would highly recommend this book, although there are certain ideas presented that I would not accept uncritically. But this book serves a very useful purpose. It will remain a classic for students of Greek syntax.

A readable and up to the point book on GNT syntax

As a 186-page book, it would deceive many that it cannot be a serious intermediate text on syntax of Greek New Testament. The book is highly readable and full of good examples. Each example is fully translated. In reading the book, I have been fully touched by the meaning revealed and discussed by the authors quite a number of times. If I were to compare this text with other renowned text, there are at least three parts covered and discussed by the book that stands out. Its coverage on middle voice is an excellent section. The other one is subjunctive mood. The authors' approach to discuss sentence structure through expansion of subject and predicate is not only unique, interesting but also really useful.

this made me smile , cry, and love and made me feel mad . a mixture of emotions, an undying love, the beauty of friendship and unimaginable sacrifices , this book kills. once you get it you just cant put it down , it is one of the most amazing books to be read and it would even make a great movie. most times i was just screaming of happiness and i was clutching the kindle as if i couldnt believe what was happening. i am not forcing people to do anything but i am just saying that this book was awesome and very beautiful. i would consider you reading the 1 sg bpok first so you will get an overview on the characters and a brief talk abput emma. i fpund it amazing and beautiful of how the author could build up so mich emotions in each of the characters it is just practically amazing.
p.s. if you think its bad you must be out of your mind

About the Author
Ahn Do-hyun is a multi-million bestselling, award-winning Korean poet. He was born in 1961 in Yeocheon, Korea, and graduated from Wonkwang University where he studied Korean literature. His writing career took off when he won the Daegu Maeil Shinmun Annual Literary Contest with his poem 'Nakdong River' in 1981 and the Dong-A Ilbo Annual Literary Contest with his poem 'Jeon Bong-jun Goes to Seoul' in 1984. Ahn also received the 1996 Young Poet's Award and the 1998 Kim So-wol Literature Prize. This is his first work to be translated into English.

3.5 stars. A lovely heartwarming story but leaves you with mixed feelings at the end plus not the best translation.

I found this book in my local library and was intrigued by the book blurb.

During their return to their spawning grounds one salmon, named Silver Salmon, stands out. Not only are his scales a silver colour, marking him out from the rest of the other salmon, but he also has a curious mind, a mind that wonders what the meaning of life is. This is a poignant and thought provoking story told from the point of view of a salmon.

The Salmon Who Dared to Leap Higher is a short book and quite easy to read. The author is a Korean poet and this book is the first translation into English which might explain a problem I had reading it. The book begins with the author explaining the reason behind writing the story 'the only way to truly understand salmon is to see the world through their eyes'. But this is more than just a simple book about salmon returning to their spawning ground and the journey there, the main character Silver Salmon constantly questions the meaning of life and many of his questions and musings make you question human life.

The story is a beautiful one but it was hard to really enjoy the book due to what I can only assume was a problem with translation. The book switches between present and past tense but this is done very randomly and with no meaning to it. To me reading in this way just confused the plot and took away some of the enjoyment. This was especially annoying during the really deep and more poignant moments of the tale. Despite this movement of tense though the story is still a good read especially in the second half.

Along the journey the salmon speak with each other as well as with the river and other beings. This can seem strange but some of the conversations are quite profound. Not only do you learn more about salmon and their journey but the whole story can actually make you wonder about the purpose of all things in nature, it's this part of the book that really got to me and I really enjoyed. However, despite all this, parts of the book seem almost silly such as the name of one of the salmon 'Bag-of-Bones Salmon', again perhaps wrongfully translated but it did make certain scenes in the story less serious for me.

The book has some lovely illustrations making it easier to read and it feels more like a book for children or one to read with children rather than aimed at adults. The story is heart warming but also sad and I have mixed feelings at the end of reading it. Apart from the translation problems, which take away some enjoyment, I find the story of Silver Salmon and his views on life at the end a little sad. While this is a great book for teaching us about nature and the meaning and purpose to life, it isn't a book to instill dreams and hopes. It's for this mixed response at the end that I give it a 3.5 stars, I liked it but not as much as I had hoped.

Wasim Asghar is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas (PE), Florida (PE) and Ontario (P. Eng) with consulting experience in design, commissioning and plant engineering for leading clients in Energy, Mining and Infrastructure. He holds Bachelors of Engineering – Electrical with distinction from McMaster University (2010) and Master of Engineering – Power Systems from University of Toronto (2013) which was completed with full-time work. In 2014, he undertook a two year international assignment for a major project in Florida and also decided to pursue PE Licensure in United States. You will pass with this book, I just did

This is the best book ever for FE electrical. If you really want to pass your exam just buy this book and go through all questions at least twice. Thats what I did, I actually failed the FE exam twice and my main problem was the electrical part, I am an electrical engineer but I been out of college for so long, and forgot most of the tricks to solve problems related circuit analysis, signal processing, electronics, and so on. with this book, I took two weeks off from work, and I studied 8-10 hours a day till my exam and just got my result, PASSED. Please note this book does not include the following math, probability, ethics, economic. I really encourage the author to write a study guide for Math, Prob, ethics and economy.

I have found this book to be exactly what the title suggests. It is an excellent study guide that for me helps indentify what to expect when taking the FE exam. Of course the book is useful as a refresher for the exam material that I haven’t studied recently. But more importantly, I really like the fact that the author (having gone through the process of passing the FE exam) effectively communicates which part’s of the subject material requires more attention and which requires less. It is definitely helpful to have the guide to know what to spend your precious time focusing on.

This book is a great help in preparing for the exam.The topics are presented based on the FE Electrical Specifications.In every topic there are review of the concepts which is a big factor before solving a given problem.The strategy to solve the unknown is excellent which helps to solve quickly as possible specifically for a limited time.

After several weeks of using this book.I could say it is one of the factors that aided to pass the FE Electrical and Computer.The author was very accomodating and had a lot of advised whenever I have some questions.Thank you

Great sword and sorcery yarn

Great sword and sorcery yarn!! More in the vein of Conan this time around. The length and depth was greater than his two previous books. Highly recommended and look forward to more. I would really like to find these in print sometime in the future, maybe in an omnibus?
